Nemostars faced a tough start to their campaign at the CAVB Zone V Volleyball Championships, suffering a 3-0 loss (25-15, 25-20, 25-19) to Rwanda Police in their opening match on Thursday in Kampala.
The Stars, who are using this tournament to prepare for the Africa Club Championships in April, demonstrated that they are still a work in progress, with their performance underscoring the gaps that need to be addressed.
“This is the nature of competition—any weakness you show will be exploited,” said team coach Tom Amou.
Nemostars began the first set nervously, and Rwanda Police capitalized on their shaky start. The Stars fielded several young players, giving them a taste of high-level volleyball. While Nemostars aim to compete among the continent’s best, the Rwandan side showcased their quality, executing their game plan effectively. Rwanda Police set the tone early with strong jump serves, which Nemostars struggled to handle.
Unable to match Rwanda Police’s firepower, Nemostars found themselves outplayed, making it a comfortable victory for the Rwandans.
Despite the loss, Coach Amou saw value in the experience, particularly as part of their broader preparations.
“We couldn’t have asked for a tougher test than what we faced today,” he remarked.
The defeat serves as a reality check for Nemostars as they continue to fine-tune their game ahead of the Africa Club Championships in April.
