Ugandan motocross riders Sharifah Kateete, Timothy Gawaya, and Yasin Nasser were officially flagged off today, March 13, 2025, to represent Uganda on the international stage.

Sharifah Kateete is set to compete in the FIM Women's Motocross World Championship in Australia later this month. The FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup will take place from March 21st to 23rd, 2025, in Australia.

Kateete, who will be riding under a Kenyan license, is one of six African women riders selected during last year’s African Championship (MXoAN) in Morocco. The other riders include Leah Heygate (Zambia), Mienke Cawood, Zoe Botha, and Ivana Venter (South Africa), as well as Atete Benzinge (Kenya).

The trio was flagged off by officials from the National Council of Sports (NCS) and the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) at a ceremony held at the National Council of Sports in Lugogo, Kampala.

“I am excited to be part of Team Africa and will use this opportunity to inspire other female riders to step up their performance,” Kateete said.

Before heading to Australia, Kateete will travel to South Africa for training alongside other riders in camp.
